The British hunk had been credited with helping the Oscar-winner mend her broken heart after her marriage to director husband Sam Mendes fizzled earlier this year.
Dowler and Winslet are said to have met a mutual friend’s party, hitting it off from the get-go. The loved up duo was spotted soaking up the sunshine together in New York and strolling hand-in-hand.
Dowler, who has fronted campaigns for Burberry, Paul Smith and Paco Rabanne, was rumoured to be temporarily moving to Chicago to be with his A-list squeeze while she filmed her latest flick, Contagion.

“Louis was just the tonic Kate needed after her painful split from Sam and they had a wonderful time,” the friend says.
“However, they have realised their relationship isn’t working and Kate needs space to be on her own. She is very grateful to Louis for helping her pick her life back up after her marriage ended and they had a lot of fun together, but she felt it had come to an end and wants to concentrate on her career and children.”
Winselt and Mendes are parents to Joe, seven. The Titanic star is also Mum to daughter Mia, ten, from her first marriage to director Jim Threapleton.
